Tend terms of use
Last updated October 17, 2026
These terms apply when you use Tend, a mobile app made by The Welcome PDX, a nonprofit organization in Portland, Oregon (“we”, “us”). By using Tend, you agree to them. Please read them, especially section 2.
1. What Tend is
Tend is a personal support app for everyday routines: reminders, to-dos, check-ins and a companion you look after. It's designed with neurodivergent adults in mind. You can use it for your own personal, non-commercial use.
2. Not medical advice, and not for emergencies
Tend is not a medical device and does not give medical, mental health or legal advice. It does not diagnose, treat or prevent any condition, and it doesn't replace a doctor, pharmacist, therapist or other professional.
- Medication reminders can be late or missed, for example if your phone is off, notifications are turned off, or your phone limits apps in the background. Don't rely on Tend alone for medication that must be taken on time.
- The medication interaction check covers common combinations only and may be incomplete. Always check with a pharmacist or doctor before combining medications, supplements, alcohol or caffeine.
- The cycle tracker's predictions are estimates. They are not birth control and can't confirm or rule out pregnancy.
- In a crisis or emergency, call 911. In the US you can call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at any time. Tend is not monitored, and no one is notified if you're in danger.
3. Your information
Tend keeps your information on your phone, as described in the Tend privacy policy, except what Neighbors and Friends needs if you turn it on. Because we never receive it, you're responsible for your phone's security and for saving a backup if you want one. We can't recover information that's deleted or lost.
4. Using Tend responsibly
- Only add other people's information (such as names on your people list) that you'd reasonably keep in your own contacts.
- Don't try to copy, change, resell or reverse-engineer the app, or use it to break the law.
- Features that read your calendar, steps, screen time or message notifications only work if you turn them on and give your phone's permission. You can turn them off at any time.
5. Neighbors and Friends
Neighbors and Friends is for adults aged 18 and over who know each other. If you use it:
- Only connect with people you know, and be kind. No harassment, threats, hate, sexual content, spam, scams, or sharing someone else's private information.
- Don't use it to contact someone who has blocked you or asked you to stop.
- We may remove content or close an account that breaks these rules, without notice. You can report anything worrying from the person's page, and we read every report.
- It's a small, nonprofit service and isn't for emergencies. If you or someone else is in danger, contact local emergency services.
6. Ownership
Tend, including its design, artwork, companion, voices and text, belongs to The Welcome PDX or is used under license. Tend's pre-recorded voices are made with the Kokoro voice model, used under the Apache 2.0 license. These terms give you a personal right to use the app; they don't transfer ownership.
7. Changes and availability
We may update Tend, add or remove features, or stop offering it. If we change these terms, we'll update this page and the date at the top. Using Tend after a change means you accept the updated terms.
8. No warranty
Tend is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we make no warranties, express or implied, including that the app will be error-free, always available, or suitable for a particular purpose.
9. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, The Welcome PDX and its staff, volunteers and board are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for any loss of data, missed reminders or decisions made using the app. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under laws that can't be waived.
10. App stores
If you download Tend from Google Play or Apple's App Store, that store's terms also apply to the download. The store isn't responsible for Tend or for supporting it; we are.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oregon, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.
